All non-tipped, entry-level positions begin above minimum wage. Rates vary based on experience and technical skills, and merit increases are provided regularly based on performance.
Our managers understand the hectic schedules of both students and non-students. We offer a variety of shifts to accommodate staff needs. If you have certain days or times that you know you are unable to work, please let the manager know when you have your interview.
Free Textbooks Available
Free textbooks! Too good to be true? Not through the Student Employee Book Loan Program. If you’re a student and you work one full semester after meeting program criteria, Hospitality Services will pay for your textbooks for the following semester. You must return the textbooks by the last day of finals.

At Penn State Hospitality Services, we take employee training seriously. From an introductory orientation session to departmental training to our guest service program, you’ll receive all the training you need to be an excellent employee. You’ll also have lots of professional development opportunities such as safety training and diversity training.

We believe in providing opportunities for advancement to employees who demonstrate the dedication, energy, and skills required to succeed in the hospitality industry. Annual staff reviews give you every opportunity to advance to the next level. We also encourage staff to participate in certification programs related to their field of interest, with a focus on those offered through The American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute.

Hospitality Services maintains a close relationship with Penn State’s School of Hospitality Management. Each semester, 20 to 25 students participate in work internships in a department of their choice. We have also offered internships to students in majors such as Information Sciences and Labor and Industrial Relations.

More people are introduced to Penn State through our two beautiful properties than through any other unit on campus. We host an array of guests, including alumni, prospective students and their families, visiting faculty and staff, dignitaries, university officials, recruiters, athletic teams, and celebrities—you never know who you’ll see!
The Penn Stater is about two miles from the heart of campus. Employee parking is plentiful. If you ride the bus, you’ll be dropped off right in front of the hotel.
